Frequently asked questions

  • Membership is perfect for anyone who is wanting to continue their clay practice. Whether you’ve recently taken a class or you’re rekindling your pottery habit from the past, you are welcome here.

Keep in mind that studio membership is for independent practice - that means no instruction is included in membership. You should be comfortable working on your own, and some prior ceramic knowledge is strongly encouraged! We always encourage people to take at least one class before joining as a member.

  • We’re currently on a waitlist for membership. Average wait time is minimum 12 months, with new members being added only when previous members cancel their membership.

Contact us at studio@sceniccityclayarts.org to add your name to the waitlist!

Once your spot is available, we will contact you via email with more details. All new members are required to attend an orientation + membership registration session to become a member.

  • Our Session Memberships have replaced our former Day Pass option. All membership options, including Session Memberships, are now working on a waitlist basis. We do not accept drop-in’s for studio access unless you are utilizing our Public Glazing or Public Firing options.

  • If you are inactive for 6 consecutive months of your Full-Access Monthly Membership, your membership will be canceled. Inactivity means that you have not come into the studio and checked in on the iPad at the front desk. You will receive 2 reminder emails + 1 phone call during your 5th inactive month. If we do not hear from you or you don’t visit the studio, your membership spot will be forfeited.

This cancellation policy will be effective May 1, 2024.

We understand that sometimes life gets in the way of our creative time. We are happy to offer grace periods or extensions for this cancellation policy IF you communicate with us that you desire to continue your membership. Always feel free to email or call us to discuss your situation.

  • Membership covers almost everything you’ll need - kiln firings, access to glazes, studio space, tools, and equipment. The only other purchase you’ll have to make is your clay. Clay can be purchased in the studio for $30/25 lbs. Please note that we do not accept non-SCCA clay bodies for firing in our studio.

  • YES! We love granting full or partial scholarships for membership whenever possible. Learn more and apply for a scholarship.

Because we have a waitlist, we ask that you wait to apply for a membership scholarship once you’ve been contacted by SCCA with an open membership spot.

Scholarships are only available for Full Access Memberships.

  • Full-Access Members

You can login to your payment portal using your email address that you used during registration. Login to your payment portal here.

It is the member’s responsibility to update payment information or cancel their membership using the payment portal.

You have the power to cancel your membership anytime. You will still be able to utilize the studio up through the final day of your monthly billing period, and then you will lose studio access. Please note that we do have a waitlist in place for all membership options, so once you cancel, you will not be able to rejoin until SCCA personally offers you another spot. If you attempt to “renew” your membership through the customer portal without prior approval and being on the waitlist, SCCA will cancel your membership and will NOT provide a refund for any membership dues, no exception.

It is the responsibility of the member to clear their member shelf + any personal belongings from the studio prior to their membership expiration date. All left behind items will become the property of SCCA.

    Supporter Members

Supporter Members can cancel their membership by emailing sara@sceniccityclayarts.org.

    Session Members

No action needed! Your Session Membership will automatically end when your sessions expire OR when you’ve used your last session.

No refunds will be given for membership dues (or session packages) for any type of membership, no exceptions.

  • A session can be used for one (1) day of access to the SCCA space. Access includes use of studio tools and equipment, usage of glazes, and access to firing drop-offs. ANY/ALL of the following utilizations of the space requires a Session to be used:

    • Glazing (even just a single piece!)

    • Firing (even dropping off ONE piece to fire!)

    • Using studio equipment and tools (wheels, tables, slab rollers, etc.)

We recommend making the best use of your Session pass by saving up your studio tasks, firings, and glazing to be done in a single day so you can use a single Session Pass. Remember, even if you’re utilizing the studio for 10 minutes, you will have to use a Session.

A session is NOT required for picking up fired work or purchasing clay.

    Firing and glazing limitations

    • Firing- You are permitted to drop off 1 kiln shelf worth of work per session. Additional Public Firing fees may be incurred for excessive work.

    • Glazing - You are permitted to glaze up to a 2x4 ft. floor-space worth of pieces per session.

Session members do not have access to storage space or a member shelf, so any pieces created in the studio must be taken with them at the end of that day’s session. Session members do not have access to any other member benefits, but will have access to the Member Facebook group, Member email newsletter, and member socials.
