Instructor Spotlight: Lolly Durant
Today’s spotlight is SCCA instructor and all around delightfully pleasant Olive “Lolly” Durant. The Scenic City Clay Arts family loves Lolly. She is such a joy to have around the studio. Lolly is an essential part of SCCA and we don’t know what we would do without her.
Lolly got her start in ceramics by being exposed to it as a studio art/education major in college. Since college she took a post graduate pottery class, had a four year mentorship with Talley Johnson, and become an active Tennessee Craft member. In 2014 she was accepted into The Arts & Business Entrepreneur Training Program in Nashville, TN.
We asked Lolly what clay has taught her. She said, “Clay teaches me to be receptive, open and responsive to ideas, and impressions. I am forever collecting material on my walks around town. I am all about using my natural resources to apply stamped impressions or drawn designs to my wheel-thrown pottery. The fractured glass that I collect finds its ways into clay saucers and plates.”
Lolly shares her views on SCCA: “I am thankful we have our SCCA community of potters, students, and mentors. I put forth my best effort to ensure that Scenic City Clay Arts moves forward and makes a difference in personal lives, leaving a telling mark with clay.”
